A sinkhole has developed on the North Mall in the Cahaba Project area in Trussville.
Trussville Mayor Gene Melton said the sinkhole developed Tuesday.
The sinkhole is barricaded off with police tape and orange cones.
Melton said the city is waiting to fix the hole until after the expected rain the city will receive tonight and Friday.
Sinkholes are nothing new to the city of Trussville, especially in the Cahaba Project area. A sinkhole began to form near the Hewitt-Trussville Junior High School on Parkway Drive in the late 1990s. Its formation resulted in the initial demolition of the school’s library and cafeteria. A temporary library and cafeteria were then placed in two portable classrooms located in the school’s driveway.
