“It’s a big-time accomplishment,” said Patterson’s father, Shane Patterson.
Patterson will travel to Sofia, Bulgaria, July 24 through Aug. 4 for the 2013 Summer Deaflympics. Patterson has wrestled for three years and competed against other wrestlers who were in their 20s and 30s.
“It’s huge, such a huge experience for him,” Shane Patterson said.
Patterson wrestled for Hewitt-Trussville this year, the team that finished third in the state wrestling tournament. High school wrestling is considered scholastic or folkstyle wrestling, different than international and Olympic style.
Patterson is trained by former Hewitt-Trussville wrestler Jake Elkins of the Alabama Wrestling Club
