Chairman Bill Armistead has named Jonathan Barbee as the interim press secretary of the Alabama Republican Party.
Barbee began filling the role after former Press Secretary Shana Kluck left for a position in Washington, D.C., earlier this year.
Barbee’s duties include representing the party at press events, fundraisers and other functions. He is also in charge of communicating with the media and public through press releases, social media and management of the party’s website.
Barbee was elected in 2010 and currently represents District 44 (the Trussville area) on the State Executive Committee of the Alabama Republican Party. Barbee is a small business owner from Trussville who began working in the media industry at the age of 15. While attending the University of Alabama at the age of 18, Barbee began working at FOX6 WBRC in Birmingham as a photojournalist and weekend producer
.
“I hope to continue serving the Alabama Republican Party and representing our conservative values,” Barbee said. “I am thankful to those whom have always supported and voted for me. Your patience and loyalty will not be forgotten.”
