Hewitt-Trussville’s tennis teams recently completed their 2013 seasons.
The varsity girls’ team finished 15th in the state tournament, completing the season with a 12-2 record. The team’s only losses came against Huntsville (fourth in Class 6A) and Briarwood (Class 5A state champion). The girls finished runner-up to Huntsville at its sectional tournament before advancing to its ninth straight state tournament.
The girls’ team consisted of Kelly Anne Minor, Kelley Ward, Kayla O’Barr, Ellyn Sartin, Callie Olszak, Mary Reid Prince, Julianna Howard, Rebecca Percy, Madeline Smith, Katelyn Skipper, Ellen Ormond and Courtney Watson.
The boys’ team finished with an 11-4 record, finishing second at a Hillcrest tournament and fifth at the Decatur tournament. The boys finished third at sectionals behind Huntsville and Grissom.
Team members were Noah Tippen, Gray Talley, Mitchell Hester, Matthew Bryant, Connor Higginbotham, Bryant Bishop, Trey Fields, Cole Underwood, Isaac Weber, Seth Fox, Eric Oare, Jonathan Ennis and Brady Bennett.
The teams were coached by Mike Higginbotham and Scott Tippen
. Pam Wildt from the Trussville YMCA also coached.
