Clay-Chalkville rushed for four touchdowns to cruise to a 27-14 win over Pinson Valley in the varsity half of Thursday’s spring football game at Cougar Stadium.
Junior-to-be running back Terrelle West capped a six-play, 70-yard opening drive for Clay-Chalkville with a 1-yard touchdown run a mere 1:45 into the game.
Pinson Valley answered with an impressive drive of its own, going 70 yards in 14 plays, highlighted by junior-to-be Nick Gibson’s 1-yard plunge across the goal line.
In the second quarter, West rushed for a 5-yard score for Clay-Chalkville at the 8:31 mark, giving the Cougars a 14-7 lead.
Senior-to-be running back Sidney Battle carried Clay-Chalkville on its next drive, rushing seven times for 33 yards, capped with a 4-yard touchdown run. Patrick Millican’s extra point failed, giving Clay-Chalkville a 20-7 lead.
The Indians answered on their next drive when Gibson took a handoff around the right side and scampered 18 yards for a touchdown.
With less than two minutes to play in the half, Clay-Chalkville employed a hurry-up for its final drive. It worked. The Cougars were able to run eight plays in 1:43 of clock time, going 70 yards for its final touchdown. Senior-to-be quarterback Hayden Moore ran up the middle for a 3-yard score.
In the half, Moore completed 9-of-13 passes for 188 yards. West rushed five times for 39 yards and two touchdowns. Battle carried eight times for 47 yards and a score. Senior-to-be wide receiver Jamal Borders caught three passes for 64 yards, and junior-to-be Eric Blockum caught two passes for 41 yards.

For Pinson Valley, senior-to-be quarterback Brooks Garrett completed 10-of-14 passes for 139 yards. Gibson rushed 16 times for 68 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 33 yards. Senior-to-be Dylan Evans caught three passes for 68 yards for Pinson Valley.
Clay-Chalkville defeated Pinson Valley 14-0 in the second half, the junior varsity game. DeAndres Merriweather scored on a 10-yard run and Tyrell Pigrome scored on an 11-yard touchdown run for Clay-Chalkville.
For Clay-Chalkville, Jordan Young completed 4-of-5 passes for 97 yards. Sophomore-to-be A.J. Walker rushed seven times for 76 yards. Defensively, sophomore-to-be Zack James recovered a fumble.
For Pinson Valley, sophomore-to-be Errius Collins completed 4-of-6 passes for eight yards and junior-to-be Tyree Watson rushed 13 times for 65 yards.
