Heavy rains of Friday and early Saturday have led to flooding problems in Trussville, primarily along the Cahaba River. According to the National Weather Service, the rain could continue through this afternoon and into tonight.
“The Cahaba has overflowed the banks and that has led to flooding in the areas surrounding the river,” Trussville Police Chief Don Sivley said. “We have flooding at Civitan Park, the Senior Center parking lot and the old junior high gym.”
According to Sivley, the gym, now operated by Trussville Parks and Recreation, is the only building that has flooded.
The weather service says that rains training on specific areas has produced localized flooding with a 60 percent chance of rain this afternoon mainly between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and a 40 percent chance of rain Saturday night.
“It hasn’t flooded roadways to the point of needing to close any roads,” Sivley said. “But drivers should use caution. We’ve just had a massive amount of rain overnight and may get more.”
