MONTGOMERY — To win its first Class 6A state baseball championship tonight, Hewitt-Trussville is going to have to buck the trend.
Hartselle just defeated three-time defending state champion Spanish Fort to claim the Class 5A championship. Hartselle won the series, two games to none.
In Class 4A, Charles Henderson swept Brooks. In Class 3A, Trinity Presbyterian swept Mars Hill Bible. G.W. Long swept Westbrook Christian in Class 2A and St. Luke’s Episcopal defeated Shoals Christian in two games in Class 1A.
All classifications have been sweeps. If you’re superstitious, that’s good news for No. 5 Pelham, which won Game 1 over No. 10 Hewitt-Trussville 3-2 on Friday night at Paterson Field.
Hewitt-Trussville has been down one game to none in each of its past two series, the third round at Grissom and last week against Hoover in the semifinals.
A steady rain began to fall at Riverwalk Stadium at about 12:50 p.m. today. There’s a good chance it will continue this afternoon and into tonight. The grounds crew covered the infield with tarp at about 1:05 p.m. The rain has stopped for now as of 1:15 p.m.
