The Rotary Club of Trussville is working to instill the love of reading in young readers by regular reading sessions with Paine Primary School students.
Several members of the Trussville Rotary Club give their time every Wednesday morning to help students improve their reading skills by listening while the students read to them.
“It’s so important that these kids have someone to give them a little extra time for reading,” said Rotary Club member Tom Ruf. “I’ve seen a definite improvement in their reading skills since we started this school year.”
Dave Smith also reads with the students.
“Sometimes I see some of these kids when I’m out and about, and they’ll come up to me and just give me a big hug,” he said. “It’s very rewarding.”
