The Trussville Rotary Club recognized scholarship recipients at its May 22 meeting.
Christina French will attend Jefferson State College and Nikki Aldrich will attend the University of Alabama. They will each receive $1,000 per year. The scholarships are renewable for up to four years.
Criteria for selection of recipients include high school GPA, awards and honors received, civic activities and community involvement, career goals, the amount of financial assistance currently committed to them, and financial need.
The Rotary Club also presented a one-time scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to Tiffany Roseman, a student at Restoration Academy. Roseman will attend the University of Montevallo this fall.
State Sen. Slade Blackwell was the featured speaker at the club’s meeting, briefly providing some of the highlights of the legislative session, including SB108 on law enforcement consolidation; SB117 on streamlining state IT functions; HB84, the Accountability Act of 2013 (school choice tax credit); and HB94 on Alabama Trust Fund repayment. He told the group that his main focus will continue to be bills that affect small businesses.
