The Trussville Public Library’s summer reading program is under way.
Signup for kids and teenagers began today. Each reader will get a summer reading bag with everything needed for the program.
The children’s theme this summer is “Dig Into Reading,” the teen theme is “Beneath the Surface” and the adult theme is “Groundbreaking Reads.”
The free program will feature weekly prizes for reading books, and activities and performers throughout June and July.

Summer reading programs in the adult department include learning about writing from author Kerry Madden (accompanied by her daughter, illustrator Lucy Madden-Lunsford); artifact hunting from Jim Phillips; composting, soil and plants from horticultural extension agent Sallie Lee; making crepes with chef Angela Schmidt; and creating your own zombie look on zombie makeup night.
Adults can win prizes for submitting brief book reviews and attending programs.
