The recruitment of Clay-Chalkville rising point guard Hasan Abdullah is heating up.
Abdullah, a 5-foot-11, 160-pound guard, said he has garnered “strong interest” from 18 universities and will visit Cornell University for an Elite Camp later this month.
Abdullah has already attended an Elite Camp at Georgia State on June 1.
Abdullah said he has been on an unofficial visit to Murray State in Kentucky.
The solid ball handler has no scholarship offers yet, but it’s still early in the recruiting process.
Abdullah plays AAU basketball for the Birmingham Ice 16U team, which also consists of Clay-Chalkville power forward David Turner.
Birmingham Ice Recruiting Coordinator Clarence Williams said in a Tweet that Abdullah has also received interest from East Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Southern Illinois, Loyola University and Cornell.
Abdullah averaged 10 points, nine assists and four steals per game as a sophomore for a Clay-Chalkville team that reached the Class 6A Northeast Regional semifinals at Jacksonville State University, losing to eventual state champion Mountain Brook 47-44. The Cougars posted a 24-7 season record last season under second-year head coach Daniel Foy.
