The victim of a fatal traffic accident Thursday at Sweeney Hollow Road and Alabama Highway 79 near Pinson has been identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as 83-year-old Betty McGinnis, of Birmingham.
Just after 2 p.m. Thursday, deputies were called to investigate a traffic accident at Sweeney Hollow Road and Alabama Highway 79, said Chief Deputy Randy Christian.
The accident involved two cars.
McGinnis was in the passenger seat of a 2003 Buick LeSabre that was southbound on Highway 79, said Jefferson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jack Self. The car was turning left onto Sweeney Hollow Road when it was hit by a northbound Ford SUV. McGinnis was pronounced dead on the scene.
The Buick’s driver and rear passenger suffered serious injuries, Self said. Their conditions weren’t available.
The driver of the Ford SUV was not injured, Self said.
