Former Hewitt-Trussville offensive lineman Carson Cooper recently signed to play college football at Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss.
Mississippi College posted a 2-8 record last season in the Division III American Southwest Conference.
“We’re excited for him,” said Hewitt-Trussville head football coach Hal Riddle.
Cooper was a three-year starter at right guard at Hewitt-Trussville. Cooper said he will start out at nose tackle — which he played his freshman year — at Mississippi College.
The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Cooper didn’t play tackle football until his freshman year of high school.
Cooper said he’s heard many great things about the school, facilities and coaches.
“It’s awesome,” said Cooper, who plans to study business. “The campus is amazing.”
Cooper had other offers from Huntingdon College, Belhaven University in Mississippi, Bethel University in Tennessee and LaGrange College in Georgia.
“It just means everything to me,” Cooper said. “Football has really been my dream since I was really young, to get out there and play at the college level. It’s just really exciting and I’m really excited to get over there and play.”
