Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon attendees June 20 found out it’s easy to apply for funds from the BP oil settlement.
Jason Harpe and James Norris with Carr Riggs & Ingram, along with Shay Click-Reynolds of Massey Stotser & Nichols PC, were the featured speakers at the luncheon.
The presenters said that almost every business in Alabama could qualify because they are located in a Gulf Coast zone. They recommended that all businesses should be assessed to see if they can get money.
Ineligible companies include financial institutions, insurance companies, government entities, oil and gas companies, defense contractors, and real estate developers. Businesses in Alabama fall into the “D” zone category and must pass a “V” test, which will include a simple financial assessment as defined by pre-determined BP guidelines. The deadline to file is April 22, 2014.

Carr Riggs & Ingram has filed for more $500 million in BP settlement claims, mainly through its Destin and Panama City offices.
The chamber also recognized its June Customer Service Award recipient as Jonathan Garner of GameStop in Trussville. The nominator said Garner was “strategic and had an amazing ability to multitask without me ever feeling like he had forgotten us.”
