The Friends of the Trussville Library last week presented the Trussville Public Library with a $3,000 check at the close of the summer reading program.
The summer reading program included 1,600 registered readers, and more than 60,000 patrons came through the doors in the months of June and July. Library Director Emily Tish called the program a “huge success” and said the financial support from Friends was a big help to library staff members.

In addition to library funds budgeted for the summer program, the Friends organization also helps underwrite special programs or provide non-budgeted supplies and equipment throughout the year. Since 2008, the Friends group has donated more than $18,000 to the library, according to Friends treasurer Susan Branch. George and Dianne Adams, both avid gardeners, spent part of the spring digging up plants from their own home garden and repotting them for sale. The couple raised $650, which they have asked to be used by the library children’s department.
The 96-member Friends organization is headed by Mary Lynne Robbins and Lynne Long, co-presidents; Mary Sue Landman, vice president; Carla Sweet, secretary; and Susan Branch, treasurer.
