A kick-a-thon will be Saturday in Trussville to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The event will be held at Birmingham Academy of Martial Arts on North Chalkville Road in Trussville beginning at 1:30 p.m. Youth and adult students begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be joined at 2:30 p.m. by the preschool students.
The kick-a-thon will be done in honor of Thomas Sullivan, a former student who recently lost his battle with cancer. St. Jude has promised a plaque in his honor. The size of the plaque will be based on the amount of money raised.
Students will spend one to two hours completing 1,000 kicks. Participants have been soliciting donations from friends and families.
Young students will kick 500 times, whereas older students will kick approximately 1,000 times.
This is the third year of this event. The first two years, the academy raised a total of just less than ,000. The academy hopes to raise its largest amount this year in honor of Sullivan.
