Pinson Valley High School last week hosted one of the most well-known drum corps in the country.
The Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, one of the top-rated drum and bugle corps in the world, performed last Wednesday and Thursday at the high school.
The corps organized in 1988 as the Charlotte Drum Corps Association. The association members, made up of drum corps enthusiasts and/or alumni originally from the Northeast, Midwest and South, watched videos and discussed the happenings of the day in the activity.
During that first year, the organization also took on the task of organizing and running two drum corps shows: Southern Gold Classic, a Drum Corps East sanctioned event held at Davidson College; and the first Drum Corps International sanctioned NightBEAT, held at Memorial Stadium in uptown Charlotte, it’s home to this day.
