Though lacrosse isn’t yet a state-sponsored sport, Hewitt-Trussville is searching for players.
Several high school boys played for the Greater Birmingham Youth Lacrosse Association last year, playing for Mountain Brook, Hoover and Vestavia Hills teams. There were not enough boys — 18 — to have a Trussville team a year ago.
Jamey Curlee, who will coach lacrosse in Trussville, wants to add 10 or so players to the nine or 10 from Trussville who played last year to have a Trussville junior varsity/high school team in the GBYLA.
Curlee said he is also recruiting girls to see if there will be enough to warrant a Trussville girls team.
Trussville already has a U-12 team in place.
High school boys and girls who wish to play must be in the ninth through 12th grades. To sign up or for more information, contact Curlee at jamey.curlee@trussvillecityschools.com.
