The archaeological dig at the site of the future Hewitt-Trussville Stadium is complete.
Trussville City Schools Facilities Coordinator Barry Davis said the dig was completed Wednesday by researchers from the University of Alabama.
Davis said the school system and city of Trussville will now wait for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to release them to build the stadium, which will come in the form of a permit.
Davis said that UA Office of Archaeological Research Director Matthew Gage, who was in charge of the dig, felt “really, really positive” that the Corps would issue the permit, signifying a “go” for stadium construction.
The school board has until Aug. 30 to sign a contract with Blalock Building Company to construct the stadium. The board approved Blalock as the builder last month.
The new stadium is expected to open for the 2014 high school football season.
