Former Pinson Valley golfer John Michael O’Toole helped the University of Cincinnati golf team this week to a third-place finish at the Bearcat Invitational at Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky.
O’Toole, a junior, tied for 28th individually out of 79 golfers, shooting rounds of 74, 74 and 75.
Cincinnati finished nine shots behind Austin Peay, which won the tournament. Marshall University finished second in the 15-team tournament.
The finish was Cincinnati’s fourth in the top 5 of the team standings in as many fall tournaments. The Bearcats won the Cleveland Invitational on Oct. 1, tied for second at the Marshall Invitational on Sept. 10 and finished fifth at the Cardinal Intercollegiate on Sept. 24. In the Cleveland Invitational, O’Toole tied for 25th individually.
O’Toole graduated from Pinson Valley High School in 2011. He won the Class 5A individual state championship that year at Magnolia Grove in Mobile. He shot 72 and 69 in the tournament, which Pinson Valley placed fifth in as a team.
