Trussville City Schools Athletics Director Karen Johns earlier this month was inducted into the Hanover Park Regional High School District Athletic Hall of Fame in New Jersey.
A 1984 graduate of Whippany Park High School in Whippany, N.J., Johns was an All Conference, All Morris County and All State guard in basketball and shortstop in softball.

In college, Johns was a two-time NCAA Division I All-American First Team catcher at the University of South Carolina. She was a three-time world champion gold medalist as a player on the USA National Team. She was also a world champion gold medalist as an assistant coach for the USA Softball National Team.
At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Johns was an assistant coach on the U.S. Softball Olympic Team that won the silver medal. She was the head coach for the USA Junior National Team that in 2011 won gold in South Africa.
Johns has also been the head softball coach at the University of Virginia and the University of Florida.
Johns has been Trussville City Schools’ athletics director since July 2011.
