Clay-Chalkville has tumbled from the second-ranked team in Class 6A all the way to No. 8 in this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association poll.
The Cougars fell 24-21 last week at Gadsden City.
Hoover (7-0) garnered all 31 first-place votes this week. Smiths Station (7-0), Bob Jones (7-0), Vestavia Hills (6-1), Auburn (6-1), Shades Valley (7-0) and Opelika (6-1) are the teams ranked ahead of Clay-Chalkville (6-1). McGill-Toolen (6-1) is ranked ninth and Spain Park (7-0) is 10th.
Clay-Chalkville has a tough test at Huntsville (5-2, 4-1 Class 6A, Region 7) in this week’s Friday Feature game.
Neither Hewitt-Trussville nor Pinson Valley garnered votes for top 10 consideration in the Class 6A and Class 5A polls, respectively.
