Amerex Corporation Vice President of Sales Andy Halasz spoke to the Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club on Wednesday.
Halasz said that last year he did a segment on the “Jay Leno’s Garage” show, demonstrating the proper use of fire extinguishers.
Halasz has been in the fire protection industry since 1975, joining Amerex Corporation in 1993.
Amerex Corporation produces about 14,000 fire extinguishers per day, up from 300-400 when the company started in 1971.
It was also reported that the Trussville Noon Rotary Club and Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club annual golf tournament in September raised more than $8,300 for the morning club and more than $5,800 for the noon club to provide scholarships to area students. Since the tournament’s inception 20 years ago, the two clubs have provided more than $300,000 in scholarship money.
The scholarships will be awarded to deserving high school seniors attending schools in the eastern area of Jefferson County based on financial need. The requirements for the award include above-average grades, demonstration of good citizenship and a genuine desire to attend the college or university of their choice. The scholarships can be renewed for up to four years if the student maintains the required grade point average.
