The Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson is encouraging people to participate in America Recycles Day, scheduled nationwide Friday.
According to the initiative’s website, there are recycling events in Auburn, Albertville, Montgomery, Troy, Florence and Guntersville on Friday.
The Trussville, Clay and Pinson areas have been encouraging recycling opportunities this year. Boy Scouts Troop 845 in Trussville earlier this month held an electronics recycling day at the old Clay City Hall on Old Springville Road.
The city of Clay began having curbside recycling for its residents this spring. The Trussville City Council in September awarded a bid to Advanced Disposal for trash collection that includes weekly recycling pickup. The city had bi-weekly recycling trash pickup with Waste Management. The contract with Advanced Disposal begins Dec. 1.
Pinson City Councilman Joe Cochran submitted a request for proposals for residential recycling Sept. 19. The city of Pinson is expected to move toward residential recycling.
