TRUSSVILLE — Jarvis Calhoun is officially a Blazer.
The 6-foot-1, 155-pound combo guard from Hewitt-Trussville signed his national letter of intent Wednesday to play college basketball at UAB.
“I’m blessed with the opportunity to sign with them and get the chance to play at a high level of competition next year,” Calhoun said. “I feel like it’s the right school for me to further my education and my sports career.”
Calhoun verbally committed to the Blazers in March. He also had scholarship offers from Murray State, Georgia, Georgia State, Tennessee Tech and Samford.
As a junior, Calhoun averaged 25 points, three assists and two rebounds per game. For his Hewitt-Trussville career, Calhoun has scored 1,675 points.
Calhoun was the first Class of 2014 recruit to make his pledge to UAB. Second-year head coach Jerod Haase has assembled a solid recruiting class, also gaining pledges from Savannah, Ga., power forward Chris Cokley, Dallas County power forward William Lee and Hazel Green small forward Lewis Sullivan.
“I’m excited to play under Coach Haase and his staff,” Calhoun said. “They are honestly like a second family to me.”
