TRUSSVILLE — Ken Millar, 87, of Trussville is dead following a shooting on Rockridge Avenue on Thursday afternoon and police have a suspect in custody.
According to Lt. Jeff Bridges of the Trussville Police Department, Millar, who owned the home, was shot during an altercation with Freddie Earl Patton, who was also living in the house. Patton, also of Trussville, is in custody at Trussville City Jail, but has not yet been charged.
Millar was transported to the hospital, but did not survive the shooting, Bridges said.
“The victim was shot in the chest by what appears (to be) a .357, but we’re still investigating,” Bridges said. “The suspect was still on the scene when we arrived.”
Bridges said officers were called to the scene after reports of a shooting came in to dispatchers about 4:30 p.m.
“We’re working with the district attorney to determine the appropriate charges,” Bridges said.
We will continue to update the story as more information becomes available.
