TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt-Trussville varsity girls basketball team on Saturday moved to 5-1 on the season with a 56-20 win over Dora in the first round of the Bryant Bank Thanksgiving Classic.
Senior Elizabeth Brown scored 13 points to lead Hewitt-Trussville. Junior Cayla Dillard scored 10 points and sophomore Gabby Hill added nine.
The girls take on Pelham today at 5 p.m. in the tournament’s semifinals. The winner faces the winner of the Vestavia Hills vs. Pinson Valley game on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for the tournament championship.
Pinson Valley’s girls defeated Mortimer Jordan 45-40 in the first round of the tournament, their first win of the season. Alex Lowery scored 12 points for Pinson Valley. Pinson Valley plays Vestavia Hills today at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
The Hewitt-Trussville varsity boys remained undefeated Saturday with a 78-60 win over Fort Payne in the first round of the same tournament. Senior guard Jarvis Calhoun scored a team-high 17 points for Hewitt-Trussville (6-0). Senior forward James Huguley scored 16 points and junior point guard Carter Pharis connected on five 3-pointers for 15 points.
Hewitt-Trussville faces Woodlawn in the semifinals today at 6:30 p.m. Ramsay plays Bob Jones in the other semifinal matchup at 5 p.m.
Pinson Valley’s varsity boys lost 63-58 in the first round to Bob Jones. Zach Jackson scored 22 points to lead the Indians. Pinson Valley faces Leeds at 2 p.m. today in the loser’s bracket.
