TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville junior point guard Carter Pharis missed a 3-pointer as time expired and the Huskies fell 55-52 to Bob Jones on Tuesday in the Bryant Bank Thanksgiving Classic championship game.
Hewitt-Trussville had trailed 51-43 with 2:49 to play. The Huskies (7-1) led just once when they were up 4-2 early in the first quarter.
Senior forward James Huguley had a big night for Hewitt-Trussville, scoring a team-high 17 points, grabbing nine rebounds and blocking two shots. Senior guard Jarvis Calhoun struggled from the field but finished with 16 points.
Senior Tony Hampton scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds. Senior Will McCullough, plagued by foul trouble most of the night, finished with six points and three boards. Pharis finished with just three points, all from the free throw line.
For Bob Jones, Tanner Finley scored 17 points, connecting on four 3-pointers. Josh Mitchell, who was named the tournament’s most valuable player, scored 14 points.
Named to the all-tournament team from Hewitt-Trussville were Calhoun, Huguley and Pharis.
