BIRMINGHAM — The inaugural Birmingham Tip Off Club’s Steel City Invitational begins at Samford University on Thursday.
Being billed as the state’s premier high school basketball tournament, Hewitt-Trussville is one of the 16 teams that will be showcased.
Hewitt-Trussville faces three-time defending Class 5A state champion Wenonah on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Pete Hanna Center.
Should Hewitt-Trussville win, it will face the winner of the Homewood-Leeds game Friday at 8 p.m. Should the Huskies fall to Wenonah, they will face the loser of the Homewood-Leeds game Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Seibert Hall.
Other participating teams include Mountain Brook, Gadsden City, Bob Jones, Hazel Green, Carver-Birmingham, St. Jude, Woodlawn, Madison Academy, Hueytown, Ramsay, Sparkman and Hoover.
Birmingham Tip Off Club’s Chris Nix and Mountain Brook assistant coach Christian Schweers organized the event.
Participating teams will play a minimum of three games and as many as four games in three days.
