TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville and Clay-Chalkville advanced in the winners’ side of the New Year’s Shootout bracket Friday at Bryant Bank Arena.
Hewitt-Trussville (10-6) beat Briarwood 49-46. Senior Morgan McLain scored 17 points and junior Cayla Dillard added nine points. The team knocked down seven 3-pointers.
Clay-Chalkville (14-3) beat Class 5A No. 10 Scottsboro 63-55 behind 29 points from junior guard Kristian Hudson. T.J. Thomas scored 11 points for the Lady Cougars.
Pinson Valley (3-11) lost 67-43 to Gadsden City in first round action.
Hewitt-Trussville faces Gadsden City at 2:30 p.m. today. Clay-Chalkville takes on Vestavia Hills, who knocked off John Carroll 43-27 on Friday, at 11:30 a.m. The winners of those games will play for the tournament championship Monday at 6 p.m.
Pinson Valley takes on Briarwood at 1 p.m. today.
