Birmingham registered the first homicide of 2014 just 90 minutes into the new year, according to Jeremy Gray of The Birmingham News.
An altercation broke out between two married couples in Midfield before moving to 3212 Wesley Avenue in Birmingham. Firefighters pronounced Desmond Bias, 36, of Birmingham, dead at the scene. Police had found Bias suffering from gunshot wounds, Gray reported.
According to the report, the suspected to shooter is the other husband. A person was taken into custody at the scene.
Birmingham police Sgt. Johnny Williams told Gray that the case would be turned over to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office for review.
WVUA is reporting a deadly wreck in Tuscaloosa left two women, 20 and 45, dead. The crash happened around 3:10 a.m. on McFarland Boulevard at 15th Street, which remained closed for investigation until 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said alcohol was a factor. An arrest warrant was issued for KiAnthony Davis, 22, who later turned himself in to authorities. Davis had been present at the scene, but walked away after police arrived, the report said.
A small plane has gone down in an Alabaster neighborhood, according to ABC 33/40.
The station said the Alabaster Fire Department is treating injuries at the 900 block of 10th St NW.
