HOMEWOOD — The Hewitt-Trussville varsity boys basketball team survived a late rally by Thompson to win 52-51 in the Metro Tournament at Homewood on Friday.
Hewitt-Trussville plays Briarwood in the fifth-place game Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
Senior guard Jarvis Calhoun led Hewitt-Trussville (13-5) with 16 points. Senior guard Jordan Wright hit four 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 14 points. Senior forward James Huguley played tough in the post, scoring 10 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Senior Will McCullough scored four points and pulled down six rebounds.
The Hewitt-Trussville varsity girls basketball team drilled Chelsea on Friday, 51-15. Senior guard Morgan McLain led the Lady Huskies (12-7) with 14 points. Junior guard Cayla Dillard scored 13 points. Hewitt-Trussville sank eight 3-pointers.
