BIRMINGHAM — UAB head football coach Garrick McGee is stepping down from the position to become the offensive coordinator at Louisville, according to ESPN.
Louisville earlier Thursday announced Bobby Petrino as its new head coach.
McGee has been at UAB for two seasons. Prior to coming to UAB, McGee coached four seasons under Petrino at Arkansas.
At UAB, McGee has posted a 5-19 record.
There are several local players on the UAB roster, including former Clay-Chalkville linebacker Brandon Fuller, former Clay-Chalkville safety T.J. McCollum, former Hewitt-Trussville player Jamal Hundley, former Clay-Chalkville running back brothers Darrin Reaves and Marcus Reaves, and former Clay-Chalkville running back D.J. Vinson.
