TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville sophomore shortstop Maddie Dorsett has verbally committed to play college softball at Mississippi State.
Dorsett batted .386 last season — good for third on the team — for a Hewitt-Trussville team that posted a 39-12 record and finished one win shy of a final eight appearance at the Class 6A state tournament.
Dorsett had a team-leading 61 hits and scored 56 runs. She was second on the team with 17 stolen bases and struck out just eight times in 158 at-bats.
Ranked No. 6 in the state, Hewitt-Trussville was eliminated from the state playoffs by No. 8 Hueytown in a North Central Regional qualifier last season.
The Mississippi State softball team is coached by Vann Stuedeman, the older sister of Hewitt-Trussville varsity girls basketball coach Stu Stuedeman.
