The January car tag renewal deadline was extended by order of Alabama Department of Revenue Commissioner Julie Magee.

The order applies only to counties impacted by the winter storm that were forced to close county courthouses or other county offices for license plate issuing or tax collection. The order includes Jefferson county.
The extension is through Feb. 10 and applies to tag renewals, registration or payment of property tax on motor vehicles.
Penalties will not be charged until Feb. 11, the order said.
