HUNTSVILLE — Three area wrestlers won individual state titles at the Alabama High School Athletic Association Wrestling Championships over the weekend in Huntsville.
Pinson Valley’s Hank Turner won the Class 5A 138-pound weight class and Adam Crocker won the 145-pound division. Nick Weldon from Clay-Chalkville won the 182-pound weight class in Class 6A, his second straight state championship.
Pinson Valley finished fourth in Class 5A with 92 team points. Arab won the Class 5A title with 148.5 points. Southside-Gadsden finished second and Scottsboro placed third. From Pinson Valley, Brandon Adams (170), Jonathan Duke (195) and Barrett Crossley (220) placed third in their respective weight classes.
Hewitt-Trussville finished sixth in Class 6A and Clay-Chalkville placed 18th. Thompson won Class 6A, followed by Vestavia Hills, Auburn, Prattville and Hoover in the top five.
From Hewitt-Trussville, Heath Williamson (113), Davis Perry (152) and Nathaniel Campbell (170) earned second-place finishes. Fred Denson (160) and Arnoree Sanders (195) earned fifth-place finishes and Luke Mastro placed sixth in the 138-pound division.
