JEFFERSON COUNTY — All three area baseball teams are ranked in this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association poll.
Hewitt-Trussville (17-5) was up to No. 7 in Class 6A from No. 8 last week, while Clay-Chalkville (16-5) entered the rankings for the first time at No. 10. The top six teams, in order, are Sparkman, Thompson, Huntsville, Hoover, Opelika and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. Defending state champion Pelham is No. 8 and Buckhorn is No. 9.
In Class 5A, Pinson Valley (12-6) is No. 9, up from No. 10 last week. The top eight teams in Class 5A, in order, are Spanish Fort, Southside-Gadsden, Cullman, St. Paul’s, Etowah, Hartselle, Briarwood Christian and Pleasant Grove. Homewood is No. 10.
The Hewitt-Trussville softball team remained No. 10 in Class 6A in this week’s rankings. The Lady Huskies are 17-4.
