CLAY — Beginning Wednesday, April 2, volunteers from the “Hand in Paw” organization will be coming to Clay Elementary School each week on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9 a.m.
The program incorporates visiting animals — small dogs in the school’s case — into situations with students who will benefit from interaction with the animals by reading to them.
The program, called “Sit and Read,” aims to improve reading fluency and confidence. It could also be used as a motivating factor and reward for students who make good choices at school every day.
“We are every excited about this opportunity,” said Kathy Norris, the school’s instructional coach.
