TRUSSVILLE — An 18-wheeler crashed, rolled on its side and caught fire on Interstate 59 South shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, according to Trussville Fire Chief Russell Ledbetter.
Ledbetter said the 18-wheeler was the only vehicle involved in the crash between Deerfoot Parkway and Chalkville Mountain Road, and that the driver seemed to be OK.
Ledbetter said the cab of the truck was the only area of the truck that caught fire. He didn’t know how the fire started.
Traffic was still backed up around 8 a.m. and the Alabama Department of Transportation was allowing traffic through, Ledbetter said. He said ALDOT will remove the 18-wheeler from the side of the interstate when traffic settles down.
