CLAY — The Clay Elementary School math team placed fourth in the Jefferson County Middle School Tournament last month.
The team finished three points out of third place.
The Clay Elementary School math team is composed of fourth- and fifth-graders. Because there’s no Jefferson County elementary math tournament, the students competed against 132 sixth-graders from all over Jefferson County.
Andrew Adams placed fourth and Zack Mills finished in sixth place in the individual competition.
Last year, the team finished third as a school. Jacob Glidewell finished in first place individually a year ago.
Clay Elementary School was the first and only elementary school in Jefferson County to have a competition math team before this school year. Two other elementary schools started a competition math team this year.
