HUNTSVILLE — The Pinson Valley varsity soccer teams were bounced from the Class 5A state semifinals in Huntsville on Friday.
Top-ranked John Carroll shut out the Pinson Valley girls, 5-0. Pinson Valley finishes the season 11-9.
John Carroll scored four goals in the first half and one in the first minute of the second half to cruise to the win. The first 18 minutes of the game were scoreless, but John Carroll scored four goals in a 15-minute span to push its lead to 4-0.
Pinson Valley didn’t have a shot on goal.
Junior Tori Gann, a UAB commitment, scored 52 goals this season, the eighth-most in Alabama High School Athletic Association history for a single season. Before this season, Pinson Valley had not fielded a girls soccer team for three years.
Third-ranked Homewood got past the Pinson Valley boys, 5-1. Pinson Valley finishes the season 15-5-1. It was the third consecutive season Pinson Valley reached the semifinals. Ramon Cupido scored the Indians’ lone goal at the 54-minute mark. Goalkeeper Ryne Mills had nine saves for Pinson Valley.
