TROUTVILLE, Va. — Former Hewitt-Trussville softball player Maggie Meacham is a national champion.
The Shorter University softball team won the National Christian College Athletic Association national championship over Oklahoma Christian University, 2-1, over the weekend.
In the championship game, Shorter was one out away from winning in the top of the seventh, but Oklahoma Christian took advantage of the a walk and an error to plate the only run allowed by the Lady Hawks on the weekend. With the game tied 1-1 it moved into extra innings. With two outs in the ninth, Meacham reached base on an error, then stole second. A single moved Meacham to third base and set up a two-out RBI single to give Shorter the championship.
