TRUSSVILLE — The campaign Facebook page for Shay Shelnutt reported late Tuesday night that Shelnutt finished in first place for the run-off for the Alabama State Senate District 17 seat.
District 17 includes parts of Blount, Jefferson, St. Clair and Talladega counties.
“There were lots of great candidates in this race and I am honored to have been in competition with these folks,” a post says on the Shay Shelnutt for Senate Facebook page. “We are blessed people to have 7 great candidates to choose from. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for blessing me.”
Brett King will also make the July 15 run-off.
Other candidates were Pinson City Councilman Joe Cochran, Jim Murphree, Gayle Gear, Adam Ritch and Jim Roberts.
When all 51 precincts were reported, Shelnutt totaled 7,475 votes and King had accumulated 6,566. Murphree totaled 2,081 votes, Gear had 1,759, Roberts had 1,698, Cochran totaled 1,466 and Ritch had 744.
