BIRMINGHAM — Clay-Chalkville could be getting some more TV time.
The Steel City Invitational in just its second year has reached an agreement with WABM My68 to televise the basketball tournament’s semifinals and finals live.
The hoops tournament is scheduled for Dec. 19-22 at Samford University.
The 16-team field includes Clay-Chalkville, Parker, Mountain Brook, Midfield, Hoover, Theodore, Grissom, Tuscaloosa County, Bibb County, Cullman, J.O. Johnson, Ramsay, Wenonah, Bessemer City, Fairfield and Faith Academy.
All participating teams will play at least once a day during the four-round tournament.
Matchups and game times will be posted at www.SteelCityHoops.com and communicated through social media in the fall.
Clay-Chalkville is in the process of finding a new head coach. Daniel Foy resigned from the position earlier this year after leading the Cougars to a 66-27 record over the past three seasons. A new coach is expected to be named this month.
Hewitt-Trussville played in the inaugural Steel City Invitational last year.
The Clay-Chalkville varsity football team will play Niceville (Fla.) on ESPNU on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 3 p.m.
