CLAY — A masked man robbed the Dollar General in Clay, pulling an employee by her hair and hitting her with a gun, according to authorities.
The robbery happened at about 10 p.m. Friday at the store in the 2200 block of Brewster Road. Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene and were told the man entered the store armed with a handgun.
The suspect pulled the employee by her hair to the front of the store and ordered her to open the register, said Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Christian. He allegedly removed the money and then hit her in the head with his gun, knocking her to the floor, Christian said.
She was driven to the hospital by private vehicle where she was treated and released.
Christian said the suspect is a black male about 5-foot-10, weighing 180 pounds. He was dressed in all black, including a black mask over his face. Authorities didn’t get a vehicle description.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 205-325-1450 or Crimestoppers at 205-254-7777.
