TRUSSVILLE — As part of its state-by-state series, consumer advocacy website NerdWallet has analyzed the federal data and found the best places for homeownership in Alabama, and Trussville ranked fourth.
“Alabama offers remarkably affordable options for homebuyers,” said Maggie Clark, an analyst with NerdWallet. “In all of the top 10 places, homeowners spent less than 30 percent of their median household income on homeowner costs, and that figure drops to 23.8 percent for Trussville residents.”
The study’s top city in Alabama for best home ownership is Chelsea, followed by Calera and Helena. Ranked fifth through 10th are Pelham, Moody, Alabaster, Pleasant Grove, Madison and Leeds.
According to the study, Trussville’s home ownership rate is 88.8 percent. Chelsea’s is 89.9 percent. The median selected monthly homeowner costs for Trussville is $1,668 and the median monthly household income for the city is $6,997.
The median home value in Trussville is $229,200, according to the NerdWallet study. Of the top 10 cities, only Madison’s media home value — $230,500 — was higher than Trussville.
Population growth in Trussville from 2010 to 2012 was 4.9 percent, according to the study.
