CLAY — Center Point Fire and Rescue personnel received an all call early Saturday morning to respond to a church on fire at the intersection of Old Springville Road and Deerfoot Parkway.
The church, Clayridge Baptist, is located in the 6700 block of Old Springville Road.
Emergency responders closed the intersection while they battled the blaze, witnesses reported.
Center Point Fire District Battalion Chief Lonnie West said the fire is under investigation. The fire department got the call around 3:30 a.m., he said.
The fire is to the left side of the structure, an area mostly storing office materials, West said. He said that area sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. Heat and smoke damage permeated throughout the church, including the sanctuary.
“They can’t use the facility right now,” West said.
Clayridge Baptist Church Pastor Ron Hudgens said he was thankful for the support the church has received thus far.
“We’re thankful to the mayor (Charles Webster) and to Center Point (Fire District), to all the support and the help that they’ve offered.”
