JEFFERSON COUNTY — The eighth annual sales and use tax holiday is scheduled for this weekend.
The sales tax holiday is Friday, Aug. 1 through midnight Sunday, Aug. 3.
The holiday gives customers the chance to purchase certain school supplies, computers and clothing free of state sales tax. Local sales tax may apply.
Clothing items exempt of the tax include belts, boots, caps, dresses, gym suits, jackets, jeans, pants, raincoats, sandals, scarves, school uniforms, shirts, shoes, shorts, socks and underwear, among other items.
School supplies exempt of the tax include binders, blackboard chalk, book bags, calculators, composition books, crayons, erasers, folders, glue, legal pads, notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, rulers and scissors, among other items.
Argo, Clay, Pinson and Trussville will all participate in the sales tax holiday.
A full list of covered items can be found at www.revenue.alabama.gov/salestax.
Beginning in 2006, a sales tax holiday was enacted pursuant to Act No. 2006-574, whereby no state sales or use tax is due on covered items as defined in the act and in the Sales Tax Holiday Rule 810-6-3-.65.
