JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Center Point Fire District on Thursday morning held 9/11 memorial services at four fire stations.
Center Point, Clay and Pinson officials participated in the various services across northeast Jefferson County.
At Center Point Fire Station One on Center Point Parkway, students from Mountain View Baptist School on Chalkville Mountain Road in the Grayson Valley area sang songs and delivered snacks to firefighters. They brought a banner that read “Thank You For Your Service” across the top. The group presented a flag to the Center Point Fire District in appreciation for what the firefighters do every day.
All fire trucks and ambulances at the station were pulled onto the station pad with emergency lights on. Personnel assembled in front of the station flag pole, where a statement was read over the radio in memory of lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
“Center Point Fire District would like to remember the victims of Sept. 11, 2001,” the transmission stated. “We will now honor those who lost their lives.”
The district’s ceremonial bell was then rang in three sets of three chimes, and then there was a one-minute moment of silence to honor lives lost 13 years ago.
To conclude the service, the students sang “God Bless America.”
