PINSON — The Pinson City Council on Thursday authorized Mayor Hoyt Sanders to receive bids for trash removal services.
The council has been looking into the possibility of contracting trash removal out for some time now. Sanders said the fact the council was looking into this didn’t necessarily mean there would be any changes, just that they wanted to see what other options were out there.
Those options include new containers, recycling and yard debris pickup. Councilman Joe Cochran believes these services can be added at roughly the same cost, or less, than what residents currently pay for trash pickup. Billing for trash pickup will be handled by the vendors.
In other news, the council declared Oct. 22 Pink-Out Day in the city as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Trussville and Clay have also done so. Residents are encouraged to wear pink, display pink ribbons, and otherwise show their support that day. Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirts may be purchased at Center Point Fire Station No. 2 on Pinson Valley Parkway.

Daniel Churchwell submitted some updates for the exterior of the Old Rock School that he believes will be a fairly inexpensive way to restore the building. The plans include replacing the windows, landscaping and installing a new roof.
